Metalcorp strengthens North Queensland capability with advanced Plasma Beamline
Metalcorp has expanded its North Queensland service offering with the commissioning of a new Plasma Beamline in its Townsville hub, strengthening capability to deliver advanced steel processing solutions to customers across the region—particularly for regional and agricultural sectors.
The investment brings high-precision processing closer to customers, enabling four-sided processing across a wide range of steel profiles including beams, hollow sections, pipe and angles.
For many in the region, this marks a significant shift in accessibility.
“This investment closes a long-standing capability gap in North Queensland, particularly for regional and agricultural customers who previously relied on supply from outside the region,” said Kylie Robinson, Branch Manager – Charters Towers.
The beamline is equipped with advanced capabilities such as bevelling for weld preparation, coping, notching, mitres and complex branch cutting, supporting a broad mix of applications — from agricultural infrastructure through to regional construction projects.
Incorporating True Hole™ technology along with marking and etching functionality, the system produces components that arrive ready for installation, reducing the need for further on-site processing and enabling faster project execution.
Kylie highlighted the immediate operational benefits for customers, particularly those in time-sensitive agricultural environments.
“For our customers, it means faster turnaround times, more reliable supply, and access to local processing solutions—critical where timing and availability directly impact operations.”
By providing ready-to-install components, the new capability also helps reduce on-site labour requirements—an important advantage in a region where workforce availability can be a challenge.
“It’s about making things easier on site,” Kylie said. “We’re helping customers improve efficiency, reduce reliance on labour, and stay competitive in a demanding operating environment.”
Beyond individual projects, the investment strengthens Metalcorp’s ability to support the broader agricultural sector by delivering practical, fit-for-purpose solutions tailored to regional needs.
Backed by experienced programming support, the Charters Towers team will continue to work closely with customers to optimise designs, reduce material waste and deliver cost-effective outcomes that support long-term growth across North Queensland.
